Nastalgic Thursday: Daria

Hey, lovelies. Today’s post is for the girl who made me feel like it was okay to be different, to be smart and independent. This girl taught me what sarcasm was and I haven’t looked back since. I am talking about none other than Daria Morgendorffer.

I LOVED Daria back in high school. It was the one MTv series that I can say added something worthwhile to my life. Me and my classmate Juanita would watch every episode and would constantly draw Daria in art class. My depiction of Daria left much to be desired though. Ah, well, I’m a writer, not an artist.

Daria showed us how to uniquely and unapologetically traverse the teen years spent in high school when you feel like no one understands you but your fellow outcast best friend and you want to escape your family so much because they are too dysfunctional for words.

Also, wasn’t her crush super hot? His look normally wouldn’t do it for me but seeing him through Daria’s eyes changed that. Him being her best friend’s brother had to be ignored in moments of uber crushments.

I am going to neatly lay down this next image knowing that we can all relate to having a teacher/mentor/authority figure that we saw in this light too.

Daria was an emo-kid’s dream and for the non-emo’s who felt they were above everyone else intellectually— *coughs* me *coughs*, she was an icon. Straight face of approval for you, Daria -_- Thank you.

P.S. Did you know Daria was a spin-off of Beavis and Butthead? I didn’t. I only saw that series when I was too lazy to change the channel back in the day. You know, the days when you had to get up to change the station? Ok, I kid. I never had to do that but I wanted y’all to visualize that so you could exercise your brains. You’re welcome! :p

Something else I also discovered, Aubrey Plaza in a trailer for a Daria movie. I may or may not be hopeful this was the trailer for an actual film. Check it out below.

Thanks for stopping by, lovelies!
